The WHO launched a worldwide campaign in 1999 entitled:

“VISION 2020- The Right to Sight” to help alleviate future blindness, as a collaboration between WHO and numerous partners. This global initiative seeks to provide comprehensive eye care within a primary health care system. To implement this global initiative as a partner there is a need for training of eye health workers and motivating them to do the work

Liberia faces many post war challenges. New Sight Eye Center will solicit help from its collaborating partners to embark on the establishment of a modern eye unit in Liberia to serve as a referral, training and research center for the people of Liberia as an initiative. The structure is intended to include: outpatient department (OPD), record and registration room, examination room, visual field analyzer room, optical workshop, refraction, optical and low vision device dispensing room, store room, pharmacy, ophthalmic operating room, recovery or short stay room, computer lab or office, lecture hall, research room, ophthalmic library, room local production of eye drops, ophthalmic medical laboratory, and toilet/ bathroom.

New Sight Eye Center will gather reports/findings, as well as support and undertake its own research. The center will make empirical data readily available for policy and program development in the country. The center will also collaborate with other international research groups. Recognized organizations or institutions will be allowed to send students or volunteers for research or internship based on special arrangements.

New Sight Eye Center will mobilize the human resources needed in the implementation of its program operations. The center is open to volunteers (local and foreign) based on the memorandum of understanding (MOU). The Head of the National Eye Care Program, Chief Medical Officer, Director of Educational Service of Liberia and donor(s) will monitor the activities of New Sight Eye Center to ensure effective delivery of quality community eye care, school screening, education, rehabilitation and training to the people of Liberia.
