Rehabilitation of the blind and /or inclusive education and training of the blind for productive living (NSEC-RP)

The World Health Organization (WHO) considers rehabilitation a goal-oriented and time-limited process aimed at enabling an impaired person to reach optimum mental, physical and/or social functional level; thus providing her/him with the tools to change her/his own life.

Furthermore, the WHO gives a working definition of blindness as “TOTAL BLINDNESS” meaning that the person cannot perceive light. Such physically challenged individuals are in various communities urging for assistance but are marginalized, deprived and isolated from their loved ones or families, are not respected, and have lost their integrity and dignity. In the rural area, they are ignored, avoided and eliminated by the community or social simply because they don’t have sight. They are considered the poorest, helpless, and the most common beggars found in the community.

Furthermore, they are deprived from education and are the most illiterate, and are regarded as a shame to the family/clan. They always considered inferior and not allowed participation in any function.

The New Sight Eye Center through its regular community eye screening programs will examine, diagnose, treat or intervene. The center in collaboration with its partner(s) or donor(s) will be involved in the provision of technical and mobility aids and other devices. The New Sight Eye Center also intends to assist blind children that are not in school to integrate them in sighted children school as a means of inclusive education.

Moreover, our itinerant or special teacher will closely worked in collaboration with the child, parents and teachers to ensure his educational needs.  Adolescents and adults that are visually impaired will be trained and integrated them into their individual community for productive living. The children of blind or marginalized parents will also be offered additional assistance into school. The center will also ensure regular follow-up, supervision and monitoring of its activities.
